As a Dance Coach, you'll have the opportunity to share your passion for dance while creating meaningful experiences for participants of all ages and abilities. You'll lead engaging classes, teach and choreograph routines, build relationships, and help participants feel confident and connected.
What You Can ExpectNo two classes are exactly alike. You will:
- Lead fun, energetic, safe, and educational dance classes.
- Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
- Develop lesson plans that help participants progress according to their age and ability.
- Modify activities and instruction to meet the needs of individual participants.
- Help plan and develop choreography for recitals.
- Build positive relationships with participants, parents, and families.
- Encourage participants and celebrate their accomplishments and progress.
- Bring energy and enthusiasm to every class.
- Communicate with parents and guardians about participant progress when appropriate.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and help support class retention and growth.
- Complete daily equipment checks and cleaning tasks.
- Participate in staff meetings, required training, special events, and YMCA activities.
- Promote other YMCA programs and help support the YMCA's mission and community initiatives.

Being a Dance Coach requires energy, creativity, patience, and the ability to adapt to different participants and skill levels.
- Keep participants engaged and actively involved throughout class.
- Adapt lessons and activities to different ages, abilities, and experience levels.
- Balance fun and creativity with safety and appropriate supervision.
- Manage a group while maintaining a positive and welcoming environment.
- Adjust choreography or activities when participants need additional support or modifications.
- Communicate effectively with both participants and parents.
- Maintain consistent energy and enthusiasm throughout your classes.
- Passion for dance and working with others.
- Ability to lead engaging and age-appropriate dance instruction.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with participants and families.
- Ability to create an inclusive environment for individuals of different ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
- Willingness to complete required YMCA training, certifications, and staff meetings.
- Previous dance instruction, coaching, performance, or related experience is preferred.
- Love dance and enjoy sharing your passion with others.
- Bring positive energy and enthusiasm to everything you do.
- Enjoy working with children, teens, and/or adults.
- Are creative and enjoy developing new activities and choreography.
- Are patient, encouraging, and supportive.
- Can make participants feel welcomed, valued, and confident.
