UChicago Medicine is an integrated academic and community health system with multiple primary medical facilities within the surrounding suburbs of Chicago. UChicago Medicine, Crown Point is a two-story, 130,000-square-foot multispecialty care center and micro-hospital in Northwest Indiana, the academic health system's largest off-site facility and its first freestanding building in Indiana.
Responsibilities- Provide technically complex and high-risk nursing care services to patients including intravenous infusions and injections for both chemotherapy and non-chemotherapy medications, under the direction of the Attending Physician or a licensed independent Practitioner.
- Represent The University of Chicago Medicine (UCMC) in a positive manner with the community we serve; interact effectively with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and other customers of our services; demonstrate knowledge of the operating practices of UCMC.

- Handle confidential information consistent with Federal HIPAA legislation.
- Perform a variety of clinical and research procedures with efficiency and high standards of quality; ensure proper protocol is used for each sedation.
- Provide patient care in a compassionate and empathetic manner; apply knowledge of age-specific considerations; involve a multidisciplinary team as needed to support patient and family psychological, social and spiritual needs.
- Complete required patient assessment, documentation, and interpretations for each patient encounter; exercise sound professional judgment for timely physician intervention; recognize conditions requiring immediate actions and initiate life-support interventions as needed, communicating appropriately with physicians.
- Maintain nursing equipment and work areas; report malfunctions; keep a neat and clean work area; manage inventory and ensure emergency equipment is ready and restocked as needed with fiscal awareness.
- Interface with patients, families, visitors, and UCMC staff in a professional manner; apply AIDET principles in all situations and accommodate special needs when possible.
- Perform required Quality Assurance testing as indicated or required by UCMC.
- Rotate to clinical areas to support safe staffing ratios; assist in safely transporting sedated patients as needed.
- Assess and treat conditions relevant to the work area, including anxiety, pain, claustrophobia and underlying disease conditions; manage pain promptly and reassess after interventions, documenting per UCMC protocol.
- Maintain hospital-required nursing and ICU unit competencies; provide continuity of care for infant, pediatric, or adult patients based on area of specialty; assist in care of critically ill patients during sedation/procedural encounters; administer high-risk infusions and transfusions (e.g., chemotherapy medicines).
- Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy Immunotherapy card within 3 months of hire.
- Associate Degree in Nursing; BSN degree or higher preferred.
- Associate Degree Nurses are required to enroll in a BSN program within six to nine months of hire and make progress toward and complete their BSN within 30 months. ADN nurses receive 100% tuition reimbursement toward a BSN degree from an accredited program.
- OCN preferred.
- Experience working in a research environment.
- Chemotherapy experience preferred.
- Currently licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in the state of Indiana.
- Current CPR/BLS through the American Heart Association.
