Overview

Crystal Lake Elementary District 47 currently has an opening for a Middle School STEM Teacher at Lundahl Middle School. The STEM teacher works with students to introduce STEM concepts while fostering adaptive problem-solving, creativity, self-directed learning, persistence, and resilience. As a facilitator and instructional leader, the STEM teacher designs, promotes, and implements a program that builds on students' interests and prepares them to collaborate, communicate, and think critically while exploring and applying real-world technologies.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement hands-on, lab-oriented science, technology, engineering and math activities, using the course of study adopted by the Board of Education to 6th through 8th grade students
  • Provide standards-based, structured, project based learning that interconnects STEM subjects
  • Use technology to promote learning, creativity, and collaboration
  • Engage and develop students  expertise and responsibility in technology use
  • Use individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students and to accommodate circumstances where a variety of projects are being worked on simultaneously
  • Collaborate with educators at their school, other STEM teachers, and Technology Integration Specialists to integrate grade-level standards, Common Core State Standards (CCSS), Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards
  • Develop rigorous lesson plans that are driven by student assessment and reflection
  • Introduce students to various models for technology exploration
  • Maintain a climate and culture that allows for authentic learning experiences and intellectual growth
Position Requirements
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License
  • Elementary Education K-9 and/or Secondary 6-12
  • Math and/or Science Endorsement Preferred
  • Instructional Technology Certificate Preferred
  • Experience with Instructional Technology Tools Preferred (Audio/Visual, Word Processing, Presentation, Spreadsheets, and Google Apps for Education, Windows OS, and Apple iPad)
Physical/Mental Requirements
  • Demonstrate high levels of flexibility, have excellent interpersonal communication skills, articulation, creativity, concentration, confidentiality, organization, maintain a positive attitude, and cooperativeness.
  • Physical requirements include sitting, bending, standing, walking, and moderate lifting of materials and equipment.
