Crystal Lake School District 47 is currently hiring a 5th Grade Dual Language (SPANISH/ENGLISH) Teacher. The role involves delivering the curriculum in both English and Spanish to second language learners while utilizing a variety of assessment measures. Candidates will teach in a two-way immersion classroom.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Plan, teach, and assess all curricular areas as outlined by the Board of Education.
- Teach lessons in Spanish or English, depending on grade level and language allocation.
- Have a deep understanding of second language acquisition.
- Use best practices for first and second language learners.
- Adapt the curriculum and language level to meet individual student needs.
- Promote cultural awareness through extracurricular family activities.
- Identify student needs and collaborate with professional staff to solve learning, behavioral, and/or health problems.
- Maintain organized records and prepare reports of student progress in both languages.
- Uphold high standards of classroom behavior and cultural and linguistic sensitivity.
- Administer ACCESS for ELLs, MAP, PARCC, and other mandated assessments, as appropriate.
- Effectively communicate with parents in both English and Spanish through conferences and other methods.
- Translate between languages orally and in written form.
- Collaborate with the grade level team and the district-wide dual language team to develop curriculum and advance the program goals.
- Participate in curriculum development projects, materials selection, and committee work.
- Pursue professional development through district in-service, external growth opportunities, and university study as policies require.
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License or Bilingual Educator License with transitional stipulations.
- Elementary Education (K‑9) or Early Childhood Education (Birth‑3rd) background.
- Fluent and literate in English and Spanish.
- Knowledge of elementary curriculum and second language acquisition.
- Commitment to promoting the dual language program and its philosophies.
- Demonstrate flexibility, strong interpersonal communication, articulation, concentration, confidentiality, organization, and a positive attitude.
- Physical capabilities: sitting, standing, bending, walking, and lifting equipment and materials.
