Electrical Controls Designer

Job Description

The AutoCAD Electrical Controls Designer is responsible for creating and maintaining electrical control system documentation for industrial projects. This role supports the Controls Engineering team by developing electrical drawings, control panel designs, BOMs, and project documentation while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely project execution.

Responsibilities

+ Create and revise electrical drawing packages, including schematics, one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and BOMs.

+ Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and vendors to ensure accurate and complete control system designs.

+ Maintain and update drawings throughout design, installation, and commissioning phases.

+ Support panel builds, as-built documentation, field revisions, and quality reviews.

+ Manage drawing standards, document control, and project deliverables.

+ Apply controls engineering and PLC knowledge to support design, troubleshooting, and system integration.

+ Interpret P&IDs and coordinate with cross-functional engineering teams.

+ Manage multiple projects and provide occasional on-site support (up to ~25% travel).

Essential Skills

+ Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.

+ 5+ years of experience with industrial controls systems and AutoCAD Electrical.

+

Experience with Siemens PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and platforms such as TIA Portal and Studio 5000.

+ Knowledge of PLC programming, industrial networking protocols, and NEC standards.

+ Ability to create and troubleshoot electrical schematics and control systems.

+ Strong problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Crystal Lake, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $115000.00/yr.
