Facilities Maintenance Manager – Crystal Lake, IL

We are looking for a Facilities Maintenance Manager for our Crystal Lake, IL manufacturing facility. The Maintenance Manager will report to the Plant Manager, and is responsible for overseeing all installation, repair and upkeep operations of the company’s facilities and equipment to ensure they are well‑cared for and adequate to support the company’s business operations. They will be responsible for the training and development of staff as well as maintaining a positive climate for employee relations.
A “hands‑on” operating style, willing to roll up their sleeves. Self‑motivated with a bias for action, a sense of urgency, and the ability to quickly take personal responsibility to drive improvement.
- Develop maintenance procedures and ensure implementation
- Develop and implement Preventative Maintenance programs
- Track maintenance KPIs and use them to develop improvement plans and key focus areas
- Participate in daily operations management processes to ensure business goals are met
- Carry out inspections of the facilities to identify and resolve issues
- Manage the maintenance of the facility of approximately 150+ employees on a 24‑hour operation
- Focus on driving improvements in safety, quality, cost and delivery
- Responsible for the health and performance of all facility assets and systems
- Plan and oversee equipment repair and installation activities
- Manage maintenance shop and spare parts inventory
- Monitor expenses and control the budget for maintenance
- Manage relationships with contractors and service providers
- Ensure health and safety policies comply to standards
- Coach and counsel teams, motivate teams to achieve goals, ensure effective communication, and provide direction with team roles
- Assess individual and team performance and development; effective performance management
- Use Lean methods to drive continuous improvement and optimization of all processes
- Lead and drive change
- Hands‑on supervisor and leader
- Support and champion business decision
- Coach the workforce to ensure effective long‑term improvements are implemented and sustained
- Act as a key communicator including all internal communications regarding critical issues impacting the department’s performance
- High school diploma or equivalent; degree from a vocational school or BS/BA in industrial management or facility management an advantage
- Proven experience as maintenance manager or another managerial role. Minimum of 3‑5 years’ experience in manufacturing preferred
- Must have experience in planning maintenance operations and have solid understanding of technical aspects of plumbing, carpentry, electrical systems, etc.
- Working knowledge of facilities, machines, and equipment and ability to keep track of and report on activity
- HVAC license preferred
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and outstanding organizational and leadership abilities
- Hands‑on experience with Lean, TPM, or other continuous improvement methodologies
- Demonstrated leadership ability to drive change, improvement, and meet productivity expectations
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Must be a dynamic leader who is an active leader and participant for positive change and continuous improvement
- Self‑starter who can work in a team environment
- Ability to hold others accountable and effectively direct and coach the activity of others
- Ability to create accountability and lead by example
- Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Strong team building, decision making, and people management skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Computer literacy a must
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to both office and plant surroundings. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, certain areas require wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).
