Join Legacy Corps for Veterans and Military Families (LCVMF) and become a lifeline for veteran and military family care partners at Veterans Path to Hope in Crystal Lake and Rockford, Illinois. LCVMF is a National Direct Ameri Corps program where volunteers provide caregiver support services. Volunteers deliver community‑based support to veterans and military families of all ages, aiming to reduce caregiver burden and stress while empowering both caregiver and care recipient through education and community resources.
Volunteers commit a minimum of 450 hours of combined service and training over the contracted period, averaging 8–12 hours per week. Activities include in‑home respite care, information dissemination on medical conditions, coping strategies, social services, support venues, peer‑to‑peer networks, transitional services, transportation, childcare respite, and volunteer generation through community outreach. All activities are non‑medical and volunteers are prohibited from offering personal medical advice or diagnosis.
Pre‑service training plus up to 90 hours of ongoing training and professional development are provided during the service year. This position will be available pending Ameri Corps funding announcement.
LCVMF Ameri Corps volunteers provide a minimum of 450 hours of combined service and training over the contracted period, serving an average of 8–12 hours per week.
Responsibilities include:
- In‑home respite care for 1–2 families per week, enabling caregivers to meet essential family or personal needs.
- Disseminating information to caregivers or care recipients on medical conditions, coping strategies, social services, support venues, and other resources.
- Creating and supporting peer‑to‑peer networks.
- Providing transitional services and, at the discretion of the subrecipient agency, transportation and childcare respite.
- Generating volunteer interest through community outreach.
- Training and professional development throughout the service year.
- Educational award upon successful completion of service.
