Maintenance Worker - Wastewater Division

Overview

Perform a variety of tasks associated with the maintenance, operation, and repair of the City’s wastewater facilities and lift stations, including additional tasks as assigned within the Public Works Department.

• Maintenance, operation, and repair of wastewater facilities and lift stations.
• Snow removal for the City during the winter months.
• Plant checks, troubleshooting and repair of equipment.
• Record keeping, sampling, and lab analysis.
• Preparing regulatory reports.
• Handling chemicals and ordering equipment/supplies.
• Enter data into spreadsheets, utilize email, and view GIS maps.

• High school diploma or equivalent with public works training or experience in the maintenance, operations and repair of streets, water and wastewater facilities, public water distribution systems, and sewer collection systems.
• Familiarity with personal computers and SCADA systems (PC and iPad applications).
• Ability to multi‑task and work in a fast‑paced environment.
• Good judgment, problem‑solving skills, excellent organizational and time‑management abilities, and attention to detail.

The job schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. Weekend and/or night hours are required for scheduled and emergency work, including snow/ice control removal activities. Candidates must be willing to be scheduled for on‑call duties (after‑hours call‑backs).

Applicant must possess, or be able to obtain within 6 months of hire, a valid Illinois Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or Class B with No Restrictions (Full Air Brakes). The City will provide the necessary training if needed. Additionally, candidates must have a Class #4 IEPA Wastewater Operator’s Certification or the ability to obtain it within 16 months of hire.

The starting hourly rate ranges from $27.91 to $29.61 depending on qualifications along with an excellent benefit package including health, dental and life insurance effective on the first day of employment, participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund pension, 10 paid holidays, and vacation and sick hours earned monthly. Full salary range for Maintenance Worker I is $27.91 to $34.32 per hour.
