Director - Project Engineering

Job Overview

Director – Project Engineering leads all aspects of engineering execution of ETO (Engineering to Order) projects and NPD (New Product Development) Programs, manages a team of Project/NPD Product Engineers and Engineering Coordinators, and ensures efficient execution aligned with customer expectations and organizational goals.

• Take part in strategic discussions and support resource planning and engineering budgets
• Develop, mentor, and lead a professional engineering team
• Introduce positive changes and maintain accountability within the team
• Identify, develop, and detail procedures to improve engineering efficiency and quality
• Collaborate with PMO and Sales during proposal and execution stages to understand and agree on customer specifications and scope
• Work with Product Managers to understand program scope, requirements and schedule for delivering technical aspects
• Coordinate with other Engineering Disciplines for resource assignments, commitments, and schedule alignment across ETO projects and NPD Programs
• Review specific designs with the team to recommend improvements and interpret relevant codes and standards (NFPA, AWS, IBC, etc.)
• Review and approve production drawings, adding recommendations to improve design, reduce costs, or increase production efficiency
• Own overall engineering/technical responsibility for scope compliance, technical compliance, and deliverables, acting as focal point for shop, customers, sales, and other departments
• Manage engineering change order process, Part Number Creation process, BOM alignment between Engineering and Manufacturing, and document transmittals with customers and suppliers
• Participate in cross‑functional teams to address new design issues and drive continuous improvement of processes and methods

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical engineering preferred)
• 10+ years of related engineering experience
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and 2D CAD software (AutoCAD or similar)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to clearly present technical concepts
• Ability to solve a wide variety of technical problems with minimal guidance
• Experience with compression/rotating equipment, piping systems, mechanical components, and power tools; familiarity with P&, manufacturing BOM structure, and ERP systems
• Previous experience in industrial refrigeration systems, heat transfer products or thermodynamic systems
• Experience coordinating and leading a diverse engineering team to implement changes and improvements
• Ability to travel 10‑20%

• Mechanical proficiency and hands‑on experience with compression/rotating equipment, piping systems, mechanical components
• Understanding of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&)
• Proficiency interpreting manufacturing BOM structure and ERP
• Experience in industrial refrigeration systems, heat transfer products or thermodynamic systems
