Position Overview

We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and highly attentive ASD Survival Swim Instructor to provide individualized, one-on-one swim and water safety instruction to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and related sensory, communication, or developmental differences. This role requires creativity, adaptability, emotional intelligence, and a commitment to meeting each swimmer where they are. Our instructors create a supportive learning environment while teaching essential survival skills that can make a life-saving difference.

What

You'll Do
  • Provide individualized survival swim instruction tailored to each swimmer's unique needs
  • Teach essential water safety and self-rescue skills, including breath control, floating, rolling, and independent recovery
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support sensory sensitivities, communication differences, and varying learning styles
  • Build trusting relationships with swimmers and their families
  • Collaborate with parents and caregivers to encourage consistency and celebrate progress
  • Create a calm, structured, and positive learning environment that promotes confidence and success
  • Track swimmer progress and communicate milestones and recommendations
  • Maintain the highest standards of safety and professionalism at all times
What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications
  • Experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder or other developmental differences
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to build rapport with children and families
  • Patient, dependable, energetic, and positive attitude
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Background in Special Education, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, Child Development, Psychology, or a related field
  • Previous swim instruction, coaching, teaching, therapy, or childcare experience
  • Experience implementing sensory regulation or behavior support strategies
  • Familiarity with visual supports, social stories, and alternative or augmentative communication methods
  • Ability to remain calm, flexible, and solution-focused during challenging situations
