Position PurposeUnder direction from the Production Supervisor, the Setup Machinist writes, sets up, and adjusts machines to meet print requirements, operates machines to manufacture a variety of standard parts, performs secondary operations, and checks parts to close tolerances and finish requirements.
Full-Time Salary Range$28-$35 Hourly DOE
Shift Available1st shift: 6:00 am – 2:30 pm
Machines you will work with- HAAS Vertical Mills
- HAAS Lathes
- Okuma Lathes
- Receive work assignments; drawings, sequence of operations and machine requirements such as feeds, speeds, dimensions and tolerances
- Grind tools and set up machines for operations
- Set speeds, feeds, tooling arrangements and operational sequences
- Select and prepare correct part(s) and load into machine
- Operate machine(s) as required, manipulating levers, hand wheels, engaging power, adjusting coolant flow, observing operations, checking dimensions and adjusting as necessary

- Receive work order, set up machines and adjust as necessary
- Download or load programs to machine through the system
- May write programs
- May operate multiple machines
- Perform close tolerance machining operations such as centering, drilling, reaming, tapping, turning, milling, deburring, filing and sanding
- Operations may vary with approval of supervisor to accommodate variations in material and machining operations
- Dress, grind or sharpen tools as necessary
- Lubricate machines as needed with oil, grease and coolant
- Work from drawings, specifications and job layouts using a variety of measuring instruments
- Make machine and tool adjustments as needed
- Obtain and return tools as required
- Maintain cutting tools in proper working order
- Check parts per specification and ensure proper forms are completed, including part tags, process sheets and timecards
- Maintain and improve insert and tooling management
- Help and train other staff as needed
- Be quality conscious and continuously look for quality improvements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- 3 to 5 years of machine setup operator experience in a manufacturing environment or as approved by manager
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area, including equipment, and perform all assignments safely
- Mastercam experience a plus
- G Code & M Code programming, writing and comprehension skills a plus

- Demonstrate the ability to read, write, speak and hear, interpret documents and instructions in written, oral, blueprint, diagram and schedule form in English
- Perform basic math calculations
- Work at established levels of production
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds safely
- Regularly required to sit, stand, stoop, crouch and kneel
- Vision requirements include close range, distance, color, peripheral, depth and ability to adjust focus
