Could float and take patient assignment on other Med Surg units or anywhere in the hospital Med Surg patients are located, including ER hold, ICU, etc. Will only take a Med Surg patient assignment

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

Mostly geriatric patients
Cardiac: CHF, chest pain obs. No Cath Lab on site. If patient needs cath, will be transferred to St. Luke s MC.
Neuro: seizure obs, stroke obs, TIA vs. stroke rule out, altered mental status
General Medical: COPD, respiratory/kidney/liver/GI issues

Patient Ratios:

RN:
- Days: 1:4-5
- Nights: 1:6-7, can go up to 1:8, but not common
CNA:
- Days: 1:5-6
- Nights: 1:7-8

Required License, National Certification, Certs:

RN: BLS, NIHSS; ACLS preferred
CNA: BLS

Skills required:

RN:

Experience with above patient types, NG tube placement/management, foley placement/management, chest tube management, Pleurex and other drains, wound care, central line/ports/midline blood draws, cardiac rhythm interpretation
- Drips (possible to titrate within set parameters):
  Cardizem, amiodarone, heparin, Lasix, insulin
CNA: assist with ambulation, patient ADLs, vitals, I/O, blood sugar checks. Can remove peripheral IVs

Support within the Department:

Charge RN will take reduced patient assignment
HUC until 2300
Phlebotomy for peripheral lab draws
RT 24/7
Hospitalist 24/7
OT/PT/ST during the day
Centralized tele monitoring with tele techs, central monitor also at the nurse s station
