Job Goals:

  • To provide assessments to determine the social, emotional, behavioral needs of students for the purpose of pinpointing the source of school or parental concerns.
  • To provide effective intervention strategies which will lead students to be more successful in school.
  • To serve on multidisciplinary team(s) to address needs of students with or without disabilities to assure implementation of appropriate services, programming and/or placement.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, LBSW, LCSW or LMS.
  • Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. .
  • Proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups, for the purpose of maximizing student achievement.
  • Ability to develop and implement curriculum and programming specific to the needs of students at the designated grade level(s) and in the designated content area(s)/subjects.
  • Ability to use technology to communicate, to plan and provide instruction, to facilitate student learning, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports and/or correspondence.
  • Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities.
  • Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.
  • Performance Responsibilities and

    Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals, and priorities.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of child development.
  • Organizes time, resources, and services to meet the needs of the workload.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and punctual records as required by law, district policy, and administrative directions.
  • Abides by District's Professional Code of Ethics.
  • Fully understands and adhere to the requirements of FERPA.
  • Provides consultation and professional development to administration, faculties, and other school employees on broad areas of mental health related issues.
  • Consults with administrators and appropriate school employees to ensure student success.
  • Consults with parents regarding ways they can assist student(s) in becoming successful in and out of school.
  • Provide crisis intervention services as needed.
  • Assist schools in the prevention, intervention, and postvention of grief and/or suicide as needed.
  • Evaluate students to determine their need for school social work or other related services.
  • Employs appropriate social work methods in situations affecting the student's educational progress.
  • Provides direct and indirect services to students and parents.
  • Serves as a liaison between school, families, and community agencies on a continuous basis.
  • Effectively utilizes community resources to serve family and student needs.
  • Provides input to assure that student's educational, social, emotional, and material needs are met in accordance with established laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Assists with district-wide SEL check-ins and early warning systems as required.
  • Assists with planning for district-wide Social Emotional Learning.
  • Assists the school in planning programs that prevent, reduce, or alleviate situations which interfere with the learning process of students.
  • Establishes routines and uses appropriate behavior management techniques.
  • Fosters student responsibility, appropriate social behavior, integrity, valuing of cultural diversity, and respect for self and others through role modeling and learning activities.
  • Engages in personal professional growth, adheres to professional standards, and demonstrates professional ethics, sound judgment and leadership.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding student/school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law.
  • Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
  • Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner.
  • Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system.
  • Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies and state, federal and local laws.
  • Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures; prepares for substitutes according to Board policies and school procedures.
  • Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).
  • Terms of Employment/Salary:
    As established by the Board and applicable state law.

    Evaluation:
    Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
