Kindergarten Teacher

Job Summary

Under the direction of the school principal, plan and provide appropriate learning experiences for students. Create an atmosphere and environment conducive to intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development and ensure success for every student. Supervise students in a variety of school‑related settings, plan instruction, monitor and evaluate student outcomes, and communicate and interact with students, parents, staff, and community.

Essential Job Functions
  • Plan a program of study that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes on a regular, consistent basis in the designated locations and times.
  • Create a classroom environment that encourages student involvement and enables each student to achieve learning objectives.
  • Provide an instructional program to meet the needs of all students.
  • Prepare for classes and provide written evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate supervisor.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals, establish clear objectives for lessons and units, and communicate these objectives to students.
  • Align learning objectives with student needs assessment, the Culpeper County Public Schools curriculum framework, and knowledge of human growth and development.
  • Utilize instructional methods, resources, and evaluation techniques that motivate and enable each student to achieve learning objectives.
  • Take all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, school board policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Furnish required reports within specified timelines regarding scheduling and instructional activity as requested by the school administration.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct; develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintain order in the classroom fairly.
  • Be available for parent-related educational matters outside the instructional day when required or reasonably requested.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community that reflect respect for all individuals.
  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher assistants and volunteers.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attend all staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Perform other assigned duties as needed.
Minimum Requirements to Perform Work
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an applicable field of education or the equivalent in credentialing, training, and/or experience.
  • Possess or qualify for a professional license and appropriate endorsement as presented by the Virginia Department of Education.
  • Be recommended by the Division Superintendent and approved by the School Board.
  • Or have equivalent training, education, and/or experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of school curriculum and framework, policies, and effective instructional practices.
  • Knowledge of the teaching and learning process.
  • Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education.
  • Ability to integrate technology into curriculum.
  • Ability to respect confidential information and individuals’ right to privacy.
  • Ability to communicate openly and effectively with students, colleagues, administrators, parents, central office, and community patrons.
  • Ability to model professional, moral, and ethical standards and personal integrity in all interactions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
Physical Demands

Work is typically performed in the central office and throughout the division. Frequent walking, standing, stooping, and lifting up to approximately 40 pounds, with occasional lifting of equipment up to approximately 50 pounds, may be required.
