- Supervises or leads engineering functions for assigned regional area or office.
- Acts as a subject matter expert, providing guidance and expertise to other staff.
- Establishes priorities and assigns work; audits and approves other engineers’ work.
- Monitors new and improved facilities; evaluates project plans.
- Conducts non-routine and final inspections; interprets regulations for operators, owners, and other staff.
- Evaluates and recommends revisions to local, state or national regulations; facilitates implementation of regulations.
- Supervises preparation of reports; provides training and technical assistance to other staff and the public.
- Most activities are handled independently with supervision required for only very large projects or the most complex issues.

Minimum Qualifications- Knowledge of sanitary engineering pertaining to drinking water; state and federal laws, rules and regulations governing drinking water; management practices and principles and administrative and supervisory principles.
- Ability to make sound engineering decisions; monitor and assess progress and interpret and apply federal and state laws and regulations; create technical reports.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships with internal staff, officials, engineers and other public health groups.
- Licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer in Training (EIT) in Virginia preferred
