Job Duties
  • Supervises or leads engineering functions for assigned regional area or office. The Environmental Engineer Senior serves as a subject matter expert providing guidance and expertise to other staff. Characteristics include: establishing priorities and assigning work; auditing and approving other engineers' work; monitoring new and improved facilities; evaluating project plans; conducting non-routine and final inspections; interpreting regulations for operators, owners, and other staff;

    evaluating and recommending revisions to local, state or national regulations; facilitating implementation of regulations; supervising preparation of reports; providing training and technical assistance to other staff and the public.
  • Most activities are handled independently with supervision required for only very large projects or the most complex issues.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Knowledge of sanitary engineering pertaining to drinking water; state and federal laws, rules and regulations governing drinking water; management practices and principles and administrative and supervisory principles Ability to make sound engineering decisions; monitor and assess progress and interpret and apply federal and state laws and regulations; create technical reports
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships with internal staff, officials, engineers and other public health groups
Additional Considerations
  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer in Training (EIT) in Virginia preferred
