Patient Access Specialist

Overview

Performs Patient Access functions of a specialized nature through the application and interpretation of policies and procedures. This includes mastery of registration, insurance, scheduling, and billing/POS collections (OLJ) across multiple locations with varying clinical demands and registration criteria. Patient Access Specialists are the first point of contact for financial assistance, conducting financial screening at registration and referring patients to Financial Coordinators for counseling and support.

The role requires adaptability to a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, and involves registering patients at bedside in the Emergency Department, which requires walking and standing for extended periods.

• Demonstrate exceptional customer service for in‑person and telephone interactions.
• Apply behaviors consistent with the Medical Center and Revenue Cycle access systems, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Receive funds, issue receipts, balance cash journals, and make deposits.
• Maintain current working knowledge, adhere to Revenue Cycle policies and procedures, and perform problem‑solving activities.
• Perform area‑specific support activities.
• Engage in the work team and support the goals of the Revenue Cycle.
• Other duties may be assigned as needed.

• Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent.
• Experience: No experience required.
• Licensure: None required.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The role may occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.

The starting base rate for this role is $17.50 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
