Role Overview
Operations Service Team (OST) Technicians are Amazon's front line responders for hands‑on electrical and mechanical operations and troubleshooting. They maintain, operate, troubleshoot, and repair Data Center Operation's Mission Critical Facilities, which includes stand‑by diesel generators and related fuel systems, 3‑phase electrical systems such as switch gear, UPSs, PDUs, wet cell batteries, CRAC units, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, water chemical systems, air handlers, pumps, and motors.
This position requires that the candidate selected be a US Citizen and must currently possess an active Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility. After the start date, the selected candidate must obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph and satisfy other security related requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Track schedules for and completion of all generator maintenance across several locations.
- Coordinate and perform twelve‑month and below generator maintenance, assisted by other members of the OST.
- Operate and maintain mechanical, electrical, generator, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center.
- Troubleshoot facility equipment.
- Perform limited maintenance tasks including filter changes, HVAC preventive maintenance, rack power installs, rack PDU, and rack ATS replacements.
- Provide support to Data Center Operations technicians.
- Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures.
- Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to while performing work.
- Write procedures.
- Take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment through routine rounds/log, including temperatures, voltages, currents, etc.
- Utilize internal CMMS to manage building workflows and spare part inventory.
- Supervise contractors performing servicing or preventive maintenance.
- Fully comply with all physical security procedures and policies.
- Drive innovation while reducing operational costs in the facilities.
- Manipulate small wires and objects.
- Walk job sites in uneven terrain.
- Work in hot or cold climates.
- Work at heights and from ladders.
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 39 pounds; participate in group lifts for 40 pounds or more.
- Bend or twist the body into unusual positions while working.
- Push or pull heavy objects into position.
- Work in noisy environments.
- 2+ years of relevant work experience.
- Can bend or twist the body into unusual positions while working.
- Can use hands to manipulate small wires and objects.
- Can walk on job sites in uneven terrain.
- Can work at heights and from ladders.
- Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret with SCI eligibility or above.
- 4+ years of data center engineering experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Knowledge of network design and layout as well as low voltage (copper/fiber) cabling.
- Experience in data center engineering.
- Can perform physical tasks all day without becoming overly tired.
