Data Engineer II - Insights, Strategy & Analysis

The Data Engineer II role sits within Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Insights, Strategy and Analytics (ISA) organization. The position focuses on designing and building dependable ELT pipelines that support analytics, reporting, and AI/ML applications, with data ingestion into SPE’s Snowflake platform.

• Translate complex business requests into robust data models, business metrics, and semantic layers using dbt and SQL to support maintainability, reliability, and performance.
• Help onboard new data sources into SPE’s Snowflake data platform by partnering with central IT and cloud operations teams to define ingestion requirements and validate pipeline outcomes against business needs, data governance, and security policies.
• Work with product managers, strategic analysts, data scientists, data visualization teams, and business stakeholders to deliver practical tools; align on business requirements, harmonize data across disparate systems, and produce ready-to-use datasets for reporting, advanced analytics, and decision-making.
• Contribute to a high-performance team by collaborating openly with peers and supporting a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Business Analytics, or a related field; advanced degrees are a plus.
• 5+ years of experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or a related technical role in a production environment.
• Experience working with data relevant to television, film, streaming, advertising-supported video (AVOD), FAST channels, content distribution, audience analytics, or media strategy.
• Familiarity with business entities, metrics, and datasets used in a television production and distribution studio, including content and title metadata, audience measurement, ratings, content performance, talent, production, licensing, and distribution; experience with industry data providers such as IMDb, Gracenote, Luminate, Nielsen
  , or similar sources is highly desirable.
• Advanced SQL and Python
  ; experience building transformation pipelines in dbt is strongly preferred.
• Proficiency with modern cloud data platforms such as Snowflake
  , GCP/Big Query
  , or AWS/Redshift
  , and with pipeline orchestration tools.
• Familiarity with CI/CD
  , version control, and automated testing frameworks to support data quality standards.
• Exposure to generative AI technologies and an interest in applying AI-driven approaches to data engineering, data quality, metadata management, and analytics workflows.
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

The anticipated base salary for this position is $125,000 to $145,000 per year. The actual base salary offered will depend on factors including qualifications, years of relevant experience, level of education, certifications or professional licenses held, and, if applicable, the location of the position.
