Overview

JOB TITLE Veterinary Assistant

COMPANY:

Responsibilities
  • Support veterinarians and veterinary technicians to ensure quality veterinary care for all pets; advocate for pets and educate clients on pet health.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and organized hospital environment; follow standard protocols; monitor hospitalized or surgical pets as allowed by state practice acts.
  • Communicate with veterinarians, technicians, and other associates to maintain patient flow; provide professional, efficient, and exceptional service at all times.
  • Assist with procedures that do not require veterinarian or technician assistance; prepare for other procedures; assist with or perform prep work; educate clients about Optimum Wellness Plans, preventive care, hospital services, and other issues.
  • Obtain relevant information from clients and maintain complete medical charts; utilize safe restraining techniques as needed.
  • Mentor other paraprofessionals and perform other duties as assigned; support safety and infection control in treatment areas and labs.

Working Conditions & Requirements
  • Ability to work at a computer for long periods; comfortable around pets (dogs, cats, birds, reptiles).
  • May require more than 40 hours per week; weekends and evenings; must perform duties involving radiography with required age and training.
  • Physical requirements:

    ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, lift up to 50 pounds; good hand-eye coordination and visual acuity; exposure to pets, anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, and medications as applicable.
Experience, Education & Training
  • Certificate of completion from a NAVTA-approved Veterinary Assistant program, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; must be at least 18 years old to perform radiography duties; one year of related experience preferred (customer service).
Benefits & Compensation

The pay range for this role is $17.60 - $22.49 hourly. Benefits eligibility is based on employment status. Full-time associates are eligible for all benefit programs (Student Debt Program available for FT DVMs);
Part-time associates are eligible for applicable benefits with an asterisk.
