Overview
JOB TITLE Veterinary Assistant
COMPANY:
Banfield Pet Hospital (internal career site instructions available to current associates via Workday.)
- Support veterinarians and veterinary technicians to ensure quality veterinary care for all pets; advocate for pets and educate clients on pet health.
- Ensure a safe, clean, and organized hospital environment; follow standard protocols; monitor hospitalized or surgical pets as allowed by state practice acts.
- Communicate with veterinarians, technicians, and other associates to maintain patient flow; provide professional, efficient, and exceptional service at all times.
- Assist with procedures that do not require veterinarian or technician assistance; prepare for other procedures; assist with or perform prep work; educate clients about Optimum Wellness Plans, preventive care, hospital services, and other issues.
- Obtain relevant information from clients and maintain complete medical charts; utilize safe restraining techniques as needed.
- Mentor other paraprofessionals and perform other duties as assigned; support safety and infection control in treatment areas and labs.

- Ability to multi-task and manage multiple tasks with accuracy under distracting conditions.
- Strong English communication skills (written and verbal) and professional documentation.
- Organizational ability; systematic approach to assignments; ability to reduce confusion and create order.

- Client service focus; consistent, attentive, courteous service with high personal satisfaction from delivering great service.
- Intellectual ability; follow instructions in various formats; provide clear directions.
- Mathematical ability; basic arithmetic and unit conversions.
- Computer skills; comfort with medical software, Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
- ATTITUDES (WILL DO)
- Initiative, integrity, cooperativeness, flexibility, independence, tolerance for stress and resiliency.
- Ability to work at a computer for long periods; comfortable around pets (dogs, cats, birds, reptiles).
- May require more than 40 hours per week; weekends and evenings; must perform duties involving radiography with required age and training.
- Physical requirements:
ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, lift up to 50 pounds; good hand-eye coordination and visual acuity; exposure to pets, anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, and medications as applicable.
- Certificate of completion from a NAVTA-approved Veterinary Assistant program, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; must be at least 18 years old to perform radiography duties; one year of related experience preferred (customer service).
The pay range for this role is $17.60 - $22.49 hourly. Benefits eligibility is based on employment status. Full-time associates are eligible for all benefit programs (Student Debt Program available for FT DVMs);
Part-time associates are eligible for applicable benefits with an asterisk.
