Senior Developer Experience Engineer
Culver City, California, United States Software and Services
At Apple, how well a creative engineering organization runs and evolves is by design. Our artists and engineers work at the cutting edge of many disciplines and technologies, and the developer experience behind them — the tools, the systems, the workflows — has to evolve just as quickly, so that teams building complex, multifaceted creative projects can amplify their creativity and ship with confidence.
This is an ideal role for an engineer who has spent time on both sides of delivery — writing the code, and shaping how the work gets done — and wants a role where both of those skills count.
In this role, you'll own the rapidly evolving developer experience: the tools, the workflows, and the day-to-day practices our engineers build with. You'll identify the highest-impact problems and address them through tooling changes, process changes, or direct conversations. Finding the right fix for each problem is your responsibility. You'll report directly to the org leader with their full support. Working closely with multiple specialized engineering teams, you'll own the systems, workflows, and approaches that help them reach their goals.
You won't be starting from scratch: tooling and delivery reporting already exist and are in active use, and you'll determine where they go and what to build next.
- Build, own, and improve the tools our engineers use every day, with their direct input and a clear read on whether changes made their work better.
- Partner with engineering teams to shape what happens around the code: ownership and review practices, validation and verification, and the workflows that hold them together.
- Develop instrumentation and reporting that surfaces engineering health, failure trends, and informs team decision-making.
- Identify and drive adoption of AI-assisted and agentic workflows that accelerate development and validation cycles.
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Experience with Xcode and iOS Development.
- Experience building internal or customer-facing tools that solve real problems.
- Experience with build systems, continuous integration, or automated test infrastructure.
- Experience building developer-facing tooling that engineering teams use daily.
- Experience changing how an engineering team works: ownership models, review practices, quality gates.
- Experience owning delivery across teams as a technical program lead, or in a role that combined engineering with program ownership.
- Fluency with current agent architecture patterns, and a track record of adapting as they change.
