The Kennel Technician is responsible for providing daily care to the dogs and cats housed at the Allegany County Animal Shelter. The person in this position ensures that all animals receive proper feeding, cleaning, and monitoring in a safe, humane, and sanitary environment. The Kennel Technician works closely with shelter staff to maintain operations and uphold the shelter’s commitment to animal welfare and compassionate care.

High School Diploma or equivalent required. (A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)

Experience working with animals in a shelter, veterinary, or kennel setting preferred; knowledge of animal handling, disease control, and sanitation practices desirable; ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 50 pounds and standing or walking for extended periods; strong communication skills and a compassionate approach to animal care. (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential tasks.)

Work is performed primarily in an animal shelter environment with regular exposure to animals, cleaning agents, noise, odors, and varying temperatures; use of protective clothing and equipment is required; must be dependable, punctual, and able to work weekends, holidays, and variable shifts as needed.
