Overview
The Rhode Island Energy Gas Supply Planning Analyst reports to the Manager of Gas Supply Planning & Analytics and is responsible for executing daily, monthly, and seasonal procurement and gas supply related transactions in accordance with Gas Supply department policies. The analyst builds and maintains gas supply data models for portfolio requirements, regulatory filings, dashboards, and reports, and leads data analysis to support commercial transaction evaluation and portfolio optimization strategies.
Responsibilities- Execute and manage daily, monthly, and seasonal procurement and gas supply related transactions.
- Use mathematical and analytical methodologies to assess and evaluate gas supply commercial arrangements for natural gas pipeline, storage, and peaking capacity procurement, including cost projections and summaries of operational characteristics for alternative resources.
- Analyze large amounts of data to interpret patterns and trends, assess data quality, and communicate results and uncertainties.
- Update, maintain, and perform analysis on complex spreadsheet models.
- Provide specialized analysis to support internal and external data requests.
- Develop customized reports using the newly installed gas management system.
- Support portfolio optimization analysis by conducting spreadsheet analysis.
- Provide analytical support for regulatory submissions to the Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission and Division of Public Utilities and Carriers, including the Long‑Range Resource and Requirements Plan (LRP) and Gas Cost Recovery (GCR) filings.
- Sponsor and support testimony with respect to various data analyses.
- Respond to discovery with respect to submitted data analysis.
- Monitor and perform special analysis of natural gas market dynamics and regulatory developments that may affect natural gas supply planning and procurement objectives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Comply with all policies and standards.
Bachelor's degree in data analytics, econometrics, quantitative finance, mathematics, or another analytical discipline.
Minimum Qualifications- Associate level:
Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience. - Specialist level:
Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline plus 2 years of experience in Electric Utility field work (Journeyman equivalent) or an equivalent combination of education and experience. - Senior level:
Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline plus 5 years of experience in Electric Utility field work (Journeyman equivalent) or an equivalent combination of education and experience. - Lead level:
Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline plus 7 years of experience in Electric Utility field work (Journeyman equivalent) or an equivalent combination of education and experience. - Proficient user of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Candidates will be hired into the appropriate level commensurate to their education and experience.
