Math Teacher Secondary

Location: Cumberland School Department, Cumberland High School, Cumberland, Rhode Island

Certified Secondary Grades Mathematics Teacher for grades 6‑12. Responsible for teaching one or more mathematics subjects to public secondary school students, preparing course objectives and outlines, assigning lesson plans and homework, administering tests, recording results, and providing student progress reports. Maintains classroom discipline, meets with parents, participates in faculty meetings, professional conferences, and teacher training workshops. Performs related duties such as sponsoring student organizations, advising students on course selection, and counseling academic or adjustment issues.

Rhode Island Certification required for Secondary Mathematics.

• Meet and instruct assigned classes at designated location and times.
• Plan a program of study that meets students’ individual needs, interests, and abilities.
• Create a conducive classroom environment appropriate to students’ maturity and interests.
• Prepare for assigned classes and provide written evidence of preparation upon the supervisor’s request.
• Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
• Guide learning toward curriculum goals; establish and communicate clear objectives for lessons, units, projects, etc.
• Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with classroom limitations and student needs.
• Implement district instructional philosophy and objectives through instruction and action.
• Assess student accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports as required.
• Identify learning disabilities of students and seek assistance from district specialists as needed.
• Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and regulations.
• Assist the administration in implementing student life policies, develop classroom rules, maintain order fairly.
• Meet any other requirements stated in the written job description.

• Certification:
  Secondary Grades Mathematics Teacher, Grades 6‑12.
• Rhode Island Certification in Secondary Mathematics.
• Demonstrated experience and knowledge in using data to improve teaching and learning.
• High expectations for self and others, innovative and enthusiastic about teaching.

Candidates must be certified by the Rhode Island Department of Education. All application packets must include three (3) current letters of recommendation, at least one from a supervisor. Complete application packets are the only ones that will be reviewed.
