Job DescriptionBlackstone Valley Prep (BVP) is a tuition‑free public charter school network that serves the communities of Central Falls, Cumberland, Lincoln, and Pawtucket. BVP’s mission is to prepare each scholar for college and for a life beyond the classroom by fostering academic excellence, equity, and a commitment to community.
We are seeking a dedicated team member for the School 2 – Cumberland, Rhode Island, who will work with scholars that need academic and behavioral support. The role requires a strong understanding of equity and a willingness to do what is necessary to place scholars on a path to college.
Responsibilities- Work one‑on‑one with a specific scholar needing academic and/or behavioral support.
- Create an environment of respect and rapport for and with the scholar.
- Manage scholar behavior to enable high engagement with the content.
- Model precise and expressive language in communicating expectations, directions, and explanations of content.
- Intellectually engage scholars in well‑designed tasks and activities that promote complex thinking while providing appropriate scaffolding.
- Assist with toileting needs when necessary.
- Knowledge of special education preferred.
- Experience working with students in an educational setting or evidence of an interest in supporting learning experiences.
- Bilingual candidates preferred; not required.
- High school diploma or general equivalency diploma required.
- CPI certification required.
- At least two years of experience as an aide/paraprofessional in a diverse educational setting.
- Be of good character.
- Meet one of the following:
Successfully passed the Para Pro Assessment; completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education; hold an associate’s degree or higher. - Completion of a Teacher Assistant Pre‑Employment Training Program approved by the RI Department of Education.
- Three exceptions to this qualification exist:
Hired before January 1, 1999; certification as a TA in another state; hold an associate’s degree (or higher) and completed coursework or training consistent with the teacher assistant program standards.
Range: $36,419 – $40,253
