Summary
The CNC Machinist I is responsible for the setup, operation and basic maintenance of CNC and manual machines and for inspecting parts to ensure they meet specifications and company quality standards. The role requires monitoring equipment performance, performing work according to written instructions and meeting production quotas. The machinist also supports continuous improvement, documents process changes and trains CNC machine operators.
Responsibilities- Set up, operate and perform basic maintenance on CNC lathes and vertical mills, including 3, 4 and 5 axis machines
- Perform product changeovers, install work holding fixtures, set datum offsets and manage tooling wear and replacement
- Maintain machining area, tooling, coolant and lubrication systems and use tools such as a refractometer
- Receive and verify work orders, meet or exceed production quotas and troubleshoot machine alarms and errors
- Edit and run programs using MDI, determine tool offsets and implement alternative tooling approaches
- Participate in new product implementation, document revisions to work orders and train/mentor CNC operators
- Operate secondary equipment such as drill presses, presses and perform deburring and chip cleaning
- 5+ years of machining experience on CNC equipment and a related degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Proficient in CNC setup, operation and basic maintenance for milling and turning machines
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work instructions and machining specifications
- Strong troubleshooting skills, attention to detail and ability to work independently in a high-volume environment
- Good English communication skills, basic MS Office proficiency and willingness to work scheduled overtime
- College-level manufacturing certification or equivalent is preferred
