Tiffany & Co. – Apprentice Silversmith Level 2
Tiffany & Co. (Cumberland, Rhode Island)
Tiffany & Co. is seeking an Apprentice Silversmith Level 2 to join its manufacturing team in Cumberland, Rhode Island. The apprentice will develop hands-on silversmithing and metal fabrication skills while learning to interpret blueprints and fabricate pieces according to production artwork, quality standards, and established timelines.
This role provides experience with a wide range of traditional and modern silversmithing techniques, including soldering, forming, forging, machining, laser welding, finishing, and fabrication while working alongside experienced craftspeople.
Qualifications:
- Ability to effectively communicate in English.
- Strong teamwork skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read blueprints and fabricate three-dimensional objects.
- High school diploma or GED.
- BFA/MFA in metals and jewelry.
- Basic knowledge of laser welding equipment.
- Advanced computer and CAD skills.
- Learn to interpret blueprints and fabricate items according to designs and production tolerances while meeting Tiffany & Co. quality standards.
- Perform fitting, machining, soldering, fabrication, and related bench operations across a range of products.
- Use multiple torch sizes and types for soldering and annealing.
- Apply appropriate sequences of silver solder and use solder stop-out, files, burs, sanding belts, and stones for cleanup and over-run prevention.
- Clean and fit cast, die-struck, machined, spun, and hand-fabricated components.
- Hand-form spouts, handles, and other hollow components using hydraulic presses, wooden dies, hammers, and stakes.
- Hallmark items by hand and use raising and planishing techniques during fabrication and repair.
- Use laser welding and appropriate filler wire to minimize porosity in solder seams and castings.
- Hand forge steel punches, chasing tools, snaring irons, and stakes.
- Use chasing tools, punches, and engravers during complex fabrication work.
- Drill, tap, and thread components using drill presses and flex shafts.
- Set up and operate equipment including draw benches, jump shears, band saws, disc and belt sanders, power presses, kick presses, spinning lathes, and machining lathes.
- Organize work instructions, drawings, notes, and in-process images and assist with developing Standard Operating Procedures.
- Provide management with progress updates and estimated completion schedules.
- Support production schedules and assist with additional projects as skills develop.
