A high school diploma or equivalent; successful completion of a Rhode Island state-approved Nursing Assistant Certification course and Medication Aide education which meets state certification requirements. Must hold current Nursing Assistant Certification and Medication Aide Certification in Rhode Island.
SkillsModerate reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics skills; proficient interpersonal relations and communicative skills; auditory and visual skills; ability to bend, stoop, sit, stand, reach, and lift items weighing 50 pounds or less; satisfactory completion of post‑offer, pre‑employment physical as required.
General ResponsibilitiesProvide quality nursing care to residents; implement specific procedures and programs; coordinate work within the department, as well as with other departments; report pertinent information to the immediate supervisor; respond to inquiries or requests for information; assist the immediate supervisor with tasks to support department operations.

- Is knowledgeable of resident rights and ensures an atmosphere that allows for the privacy, dignity and well‑being of all residents in a safe, secure environment.
- Supports, cooperates with, and implements specific procedures and programs for:
- Safety, including universal precautions and safe work practices, established fire/safety/disaster plans, risk management and security, report and/or correct unsafe working conditions, equipment repair and maintenance.
- Confidentiality of all data, including resident, employee and operations data.
- Quality assurance and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Compliance with current law and policy to provide a work environment free from sexual harassment and all illegal and discriminatory behavior.
- Supports and participates in teamwork:
- Cooperates and works together with all co‑workers; plans and completes job duties with minimal supervisory direction, including appropriate judgment.
- Uses tactful, appropriate communications in sensitive and emotional situations.
- Follows up as appropriate with supervisor, co‑workers or residents regarding reported complaints, problems and concerns.
- Promotes positive public relations with residents, family members and guests.
- Completes requirements for in‑service training, acceptable attendance, uniform and dress codes including personal hygiene, and other work duties as assigned.
- Administers and accurately records the administration of medication for residents as prescribed by the physician in accordance with established policies and procedures of The Holiday Retirement Home and state.
- Observes, records and reports to the nurse symptoms and conditions of residents that could be related to medication interactions, adverse drug reactions or medication side effects.
- Determines and records effectiveness of medications in a timely and accurate manner as required by state and federal regulations.
- Provides and promotes resident's rights during the administration of medications.
- Stores medications safely and appropriately in accordance with policies and procedures of The Holiday Retirement Home and state/federal regulations.
- Routinely cleans, inspects and monitors equipment and supplies to ensure resident safety; reports any equipment or supply issues to the nurse for correction or repair.
- Monitors medications to ensure adequate accountability measures are taken when medications are ordered, received into the facility, administered and at change of shift as required by facility policies and procedures and state/federal regulations.
- Obtains, records and reports vital signs as indicated during the administration of medications.
- Demonstrates awareness of proper infection control practice by using Universal Precautions and following facility policies and procedures including OSHA's Blood‑borne Pathogen Standard.
- Communicates to residents, staff and others in an accurate and factual manner and seeks clarification from or refers to nurse when indicated.
