Job Description Typical responsibilities

Administers methadone and buprenorphine to persons served accurately as directed by prescriber orders and VICTA policies and procedures.

• Handle and dispense methadone and buprenorphine in accordance with State, Federal and DEA regulations;
• Prepare daily reporting of methadone and buprenorphine dispensed, including measuring and reconciling of methadone/buprenorphine inventory and manual dispensing (when applicable);
• Ensure compliance with security standards for the distribution and storage of controlled substances as set forth in the Code of Federal Regulations;
• Perform assessments on persons served receiving medication to ensure they are not impaired;
• Evaluate for opioid withdrawal symptoms using COWS, alcohol withdrawal symptoms using CIWA;
• Triage medical issues and assess persons served for changes in medical or mental status, reporting any concerns to prescriber;
• Record and assess clients’ symptoms and health related complaints;
• Dispense, prepare, and issue take-home dosages of methadone/buprenorphine;
• May oversee self-administration of other medications by persons served;
• Respond to inquiries made by persons served in person or by telephone and make and/or record inquiries of persons served regarding their health needs;
• Verify dosing over the phone when requested by hospitals;
• Participate in interdisciplinary meetings with care team.

• Licensed to practice as an LPN or RN in the State of Rhode Island;
• Experience working in an OTP setting and/or with persons served who have a substance use disorder is preferred.
