Position Summary

This position supports students through a comprehensive guidance and transition process that promotes appropriate educational placement, student safety, and academic success.

Qualifications
  • Valid Georgia Educator Certificate in School Counseling required.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a secondary education field required.
  • School Leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience in Special Education preferred.
  • Proven ability to work with others in a confidential, cooperative, and service-oriented manner; excellent listening and communication skills.
  • Experience reviewing and analyzing student records, including transcripts, discipline histories, assessment data, and special program participation, to support appropriate educational placement decisions.
  • Experience coordinating or supporting student transitions between schools, programs, grade levels, or alternative educational settings.
  • Experience working with complex student placement scenarios, including students involved in foster care, alternative programs, behavioral interventions, or specialized services.
  • Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
  • Ability to be present at the physical worksite.
  • May be regularly required to walk, stand, sit, crouch, crawl, push/pull, and lift up to 50lbs.
Essential Duties
  • Review and evaluate student records, including academic history, discipline data, special program participation, assessment results, and special education documentation, to determine appropriate course placement and school assignments.
  • Analyze discipline histories, behavioral data, and safety considerations to support student placements that promote a safe, supportive, and productive learning environment for all students.
  • Coordinate and apply special education records, IEPs, eligibility documentation, and related compliance requirements to ensure alignment with state and federal regulations.
  • Coordinate and support student transitions in preparation for promotion to the next grade level and/or placement in alternative or specialized educational settings.
  • Collaborate closely with school counselors, administrators, registrars, special education staff, instructional personnel, and district office staff regarding student placement, transition planning, and support services.
  • Provide direct and indirect services to students, including responsive support through consultation, referral, and collaboration with appropriate school and community resources.
  • Communicate placement determinations, transition recommendations, and related decisions to families, school staff, and district leaders in a clear, respectful, and professional manner, including situations involving complex or unfavorable outcomes.
  • Consult with parents, students, and school staff regarding student academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and placement-related concerns, as needed or requested.
  • Partner with external agencies, including the Department of Children Services (DCS), Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ), and county-level social workers, to coordinate services and support successful student transitions.
  • Serve as a liaison between schools, district departments, and external agencies to ensure accurate information sharing, coordinated decision-making, and continuity of services.
  • Promote the use of appropriate community resources to support student academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs.
  • Support school counseling and other educational programs through effective system coordination, program management, and collaborative planning.
  • Coordinate with local school staff to support classroom-based instructional activities that align with student educational, career, and social-emotional development needs.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to student transitions, placement decisions, counseling services, and communications in accordance with district procedures and data privacy requirements.
  • Apply FERPA and student data privacy standards consistently when handling sensitive student information.
  • Participate in continuous improvement of transition processes, documentation practices, and cross-departmental workflows.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
