  • Hydraulic & Hydrologic (H&H) engineer to conduct engineering design and studies for oil, gas and chemical projects and other projects supported by the Geotechnical & Hydraulic Engineering Services (G&HES) discipline in Houston.
  • The successful candidate will report to and receive technical and administrative supervision and functional oversight from the H&H Group Supervisor.
  • The position requires the ability to work independently and exercise engineering judgement in problem definition, evaluation, selection and application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria.
  • This individual will be required to coordinate work tasks with other technical specialists in the H&H group and other disciplines, and with engineers, designers, and other project personnel.
  • Work involves organizing and performing hydraulic and hydrologic analyses and calculations, preparing reports and necessary documents to support the design of liquefied natural gas plant projects and other infrastructure projects.
  • Responsibilities include analysis, evaluation and design of storm-water management and site drainage facilities; surface water hydrology and flood protection measures; pipeline systems (gravity flow and pressurized systems); pump intakes, discharge outfalls, and other offshore or onshore hydraulic structures.
  • Responsibilities also include the conducting of mathematical model studies, employing appropriate one- or multi-dimensional models, for the runoff analysis, open channel flow analysis, pipeline transients, sediment transport, environmental mixing, hydrodynamic and solute transport; and maintaining and enhancing H&H group’s in-house hydraulic transient software.
  • Work may require travel to project sites in the U. S. and overseas on generally short-term assignments.
  • The position requires working knowledge and understanding in rainfall-runoff analysis and modeling, storm water drainage system design and open-channel flow analysis, and basic understanding of scour protection design, sediment transport analysis in river and coastal environment, steady-state and transient analyses of pipeline systems, coastal hydrodynamic modeling and mixing analysis.
  • Should also be familiar with computer applications such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, TR-20, SWMM, CORMIX, SLOSH, Mike
    21, Delft3D, IMPULSE or equivalent.
  • Some knowledge of US and international design codes and practices are desirable.
  • Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written skills to communicate with team in preparation of reports, memo, calculations and other documentations.
  • Must be proficient with word processing, spreadsheet, database software.
  • Should have programming experience in Fortran, Visual Basic or C++.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to and remain at jobsites for up to several weeks at a time.

Required Qualification/Skills/Knowledge:

  • M.S. degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on hydrology, hydraulics, or fluid mechanics, and graduate coursework in fluid dynamics, engineering hydrology, open channel and pipeline hydraulics, sediment transport, coastal engineering, and numerical methods.
  • Minimum of 1 to 2 years of working experience in hydrology, hydraulics, fluid dynamic simulation or a related field; 2 to 5 years working experience preferred.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is preferred with eligibility for Professional Engineering (PE) license in one year.
