Position SummarySpicer Group is looking to fill a full‑time Construction Engineer position within our Construction Services Group in Cumming, Georgia. The role requires working independently and collaboratively with project engineers, staff, and clients such as the Department of Transportation, local road commissions, and municipalities. Responsibilities include providing administrative and technical direction to Construction Service Technicians, meeting with clients, conducting frequent site visits, and supporting opportunities for Spicer Group’s growth.
Responsibilities- Act as a liaison between clients, contractors, and project managers for municipal and private development projects, including attending meetings, reviewing shop drawings, performing quantity take‑offs, and generating preliminary cost estimates.
- Verify construction work in progress, ensure compliance with specifications, review workmanship, and maintain detailed contractor activity records.
- Perform office technician duties such as reviewing certified payrolls, ensuring compliance with standards, generating pay estimates, and handling contract modifications.
- Conduct material testing including grout, H.M.A., concrete and aggregate sampling, mechanical testing of aggregates, and compaction testing for granular, aggregate, clay, and H.M.A. materials.
- Develop, hire, mentor, and supervise staff within Spicer’s Construction Services Group to support Southeast operations, including providing administrative and technical direction.
- Assist with business development for construction engineering work related to state, county, and local government transportation projects.
- Assist in preparation of proposals, meetings with potential clients, and other business development activities.
- Maintain strong client relationships.
- Interact with contractors and their representatives while representing Spicer Group and the contract owner.
- Provide constructability reviews, monitor projects for document compliance, and perform project quality assurance and quality compliance.
- Conduct close‑out procedures and perform post‑construction services and investigations as needed.
- Comply with all applicable safety and environmental requirements.
- Ensure adherence to company, client, and project policies, procedures, and standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- Preferred Engineer in Training or licensed professional engineer; ability to obtain licensure.
- Experience in construction inspection, preferably in municipal infrastructure, DOT, and bridge construction.
- Valid driver’s license.
