This position is for a 2nd shift (4 pm to 2:30 am) operator of large radial arm drill presses in a shop without A/C. Drilling, reaming, tapping, countersinking, and counterboring are the most common operations performed. A wide variety of workpiece sizes and shapes are machined using assorted clamps, chucks, and vises to hold them. Galvanized mild steel, 300 series stainless steels, and G10 fiber/resin blocks are the most common materials machined.

Some work pieces will require the use of a jib crane. Drilled holes can be as large as 4-1/8” and taps can be up to 4”. Must be able to work safely alone and stay on task but ask for help when needed. Must be able to work overtime as needed, including weekends. This can be a very dynamic shop so the ability to change focus quickly and think creatively to solve difficulties is crucial.

PTP supplies the tools and measuring instruments.

• Set up and operate two or three large radial arm drill presses in a fast and safe manner.
• Maintain cutting tools and other tooling as well as the machines and general work area in a clean and orderly fashion.
• Ensure work is performed according to PTP standards of quality, productivity, and safety.

• Experienced at setting up and operating large radial arm drill presses. This is NOT a trainee position.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and other technical drawings, use decimal equivalent charts, and determine other specification charts; knowledge of UNC, UNF, NPT, and NPS threads.
• Ability to re-sharpen drills by hand and/or on a Sterling drill sharpener.

• English reading, writing, and speaking.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Proficiency in arithmetic and geometry.
• Proficiency in machining speeds, feeds, cutting tool composition and geometry and terminology, and shop safety practices.
• Proficiency in the use of tape measures, dial calipers and indicators, and micrometers.
• Minimum of 2 years of on-the-job experience setting up, running, and troubleshooting large radial arm drill presses and the tooling used on them.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, other technical drawings, decimal equivalent charts, and determine other specification charts.
• Familiarity with Bickford, Carlton, and Ooya radial arm drill presses is a plus.
