Job Description

The Welder / Fabrication Technician is responsible for repairing, maintaining, welding, and fabricating equipment, parts, structures, and support systems used in the plant. Team members help keep production equipment and facility systems running safely by troubleshooting mechanical issues, repairing worn or damaged parts, building or modifying equipment, and following all safety and company requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and inspect plant equipment, machinery, conveyors, motors, pneumatic tools, production machines, structures, and support systems to help keep the plant running safely and efficiently.
  • Fabricate, weld, repair, replace, adjust, clean, lubricate, and install equipment parts, structural parts, and mechanical components using the correct tools, materials, and work methods; experience with MIG, Stick, and TIG welding preferred.
  • Read and use blueprints, measurements, and work instructions to build, modify, or repair plant equipment, parts, guarding, platforms, and other fabrication projects as needed.
  • Use measuring instruments, align equipment, replace bearings, perform mechanical repairs, and troubleshoot equipment failures to support safe and reliable plant operations.
  • Safely use welders, grinders, drill presses, lathes, power tools, hand tools, and other shop equipment to make repairs, complete fabrication work, and test equipment after repairs are made.
  • Inspect parts and equipment for wear, damage, defects, unusual noises, or other problems; communicate repair needs, parts needs, safety concerns, and unfinished work to supervision.
  • Support plant needs by helping with housekeeping, equipment cleaning, scheduled downtime work, maintenance projects, training, and other assigned work.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout, hot work permits, SDS requirements, PPE requirements, proper tool use, and all company safety and quality guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management to support maintenance, fabrication, safety, quality, housekeeping, and operational needs.

The role requires the ability to weld using different types of welding equipment and safely use fabrication tools, hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment, as well as the read blueprints, follow measurements, and complete fabrication or repair work accurately.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED preferred; technical school, welding, fabrication, maintenance training, or related hands‑on experience preferred.
  • 6 months of work experience in industrial/manufacturing/construction or landscaping environment.
  • Willing and able to become Lockout/Tagout certified and follow confined space procedures.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Powered Industrial Truck (PIT)/forklift or pallet jack certification as required.
  • Must be willing and able to work in a fast‑paced industrial environment, including overtime, weekends, holidays, and scheduled Sundays as needed.
  • Willing and able to perform the essential functions of the position, including regularly lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
  • Must be committed to workplace safety, attendance expectations, housekeeping, quality, and feed safety requirements.
Work Schedule

1st Shift only: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Regular schedule includes Sunday work. This schedule rotates every other week between the two schedules listed below. Rotation Example:
Week1:
Sunday-Friday (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM) Week2:
Sunday-Thursday (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM). The schedule rotates back and forth every other week. Sunday is a regularly scheduled workday for Fabrication Technicians. Tyson will consider reasonable accommodations as required by applicable law.

Work Environment

Industrial rendering and fabrication environment with exposure to heat, cold, humidity, noise, vibration, moving equipment, elevated work areas, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather, welding operations, and occasional electrical hazards or chemicals. Team members must be able to stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, tow a water hose, and perform physical maintenance and fabrication work for extended periods of time.

Wear required PPE, maintain good housekeeping, use the correct tool for the job, inspect tools and materials before use, read and follow SDS requirements before using chemicals, report hazards and injuries immediately, and participate in required safety training.
