Role snapshot
We’re hiring an experienced Manual Machinist to produce and refurbish large pump components using manual lathes, VTLs, boring mills, and grinders in a custom job-shop setting.
Core responsibilities
Set up and manually machine precision parts: impellers, wear rings, bearing housings, covers, seals
Read and interpret mechanical drawings/blueprints; plan the machining approach
Perform cutting, grinding, shaping, and fitting with manual equipment including /OD grinders
Measure critical dimensions with inspection tools and record data accurately
Optimize machining procedures for quality and efficiency
Maintain machines, tooling, and work area in proper operating condition
Adhere to Hydro’s shop safety policies and procedures
Collaborate with Engineers and shop teammates to troubleshoot and improve outcomes
Qualifications
Proficient in manual machining skills
Solid shop math and geometry (angles, radii, bolt circles)
Knowledge of feed rates and their impact on finish and productivity
Hands-on experience setting up jigs, fixtures, arbors, mandrels, centers, and clamps
Ability to machine 3–10 ft pump shafts and hold ±0.0005 with a steady rest Attention to detail, dexterity, coordination, and precise control
Experience & education5+ years post-training as a machinist in an industrial environment machining LARGE PARTS on manual machines
Technical/vocational training in machining;
Journeyman status preferred
High school diploma or equivalent
Schedule, pay, and benefits
Full-time; 40 hours/week expected8-hour shifts, Monday–Friday; overtime available
