POSITION: MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN – LEVEL 1
REPORTS TO: Director of Facilities and Maintenance
SALARY RANGE: Low to Mid $40’s annually, depending on qualifications and experience

RESPONSIBILITIESUnder general supervision, this entry-level position is responsible for performing skilled and semi-skilled work associated with the maintenance and repair of the College’s facilities and grounds. Consistent physical movement is required to perform the major duties of this position.
NOTE: Lanier Technical College will provide training opportunities to learn and grow in this field.
- Provides front line customer service to staff, faculty and students through the work order system as well as face-to-face interactions;
- Moves furniture and equipment to support special events, installation, and surplus activities;
- Replaces light bulbs, light ballasts/drivers, switches and outlets inside and outside of campus buildings;
- Conducts landscaping tasks including cutting, edging, weeding, leaf blowing;
- Uses a chainsaw and operates a pressure washer as needed;
- Ensures campus grounds are kept free of debris and trash;
- Works on a ladder and on various lifts to complete cleaning and repair tasks;
- Performs various preventive maintenance tasks on HVAC systems, according to schedule;
- Performs plumbing tasks, such as un-stopping clogs from toilets, sinks, and drains;
- Assists with renovation, painting, and/or carpentry projects as assigned;
- Maintains required records and logs, and uses/maintains a variety of equipment necessary for completion of duties;
- Inspects automatic doors and elevators according to schedule;
- Appropriately and safely uses and maintains a variety of tools, materials, and equipment;
- Responds to emergency requests for repairs;
- Commutes between campuses as required;
- Other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor.
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Willingness to complete a Technical Diploma or Associate of Science in Electrical Control Systems, Electrical Systems Technology, or Air Conditioning Technology within three years of employment.
- Effective interpersonal skills with other employees, students and vendors;
- Ability to work at any campus location needed;
- Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, and practices and procedures of building and grounds maintenance;
- Ability to work at elevated heights, climbing ladders and stairs, and work in confined spaces;
- Basic computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office – Excel and Word);
- Knowledge of safety policies and procedures;
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, hydraulic and HVAC systems;
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Willingness to develop professionally. Major duties and responsibilities will broaden as competencies are built. Increased pay will follow increases in duties.
- Post-secondary diploma or higher in HVAC, building maintenance, industrial systems, commercial electrical technology, and/or plumbing from a regionally accredited college or university;
- Building maintenance work experience in a commercial, industrial, healthcare, or educational setting;
- Bilingual language skills (i.e. Spanish/English) is a plus.
This position requires frequent lifting, carrying up 50lbs, and pushing/pulling up to 200lbs; the ability to sit, stand, walk throughout campus, stoop, bend, crouch, climb ladders; and use tools and equipment that require dexterity.
