The purpose of this classification is to assist with parks and recreation operations and activities.
ResponsibilitiesThe following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Perform customer service functions; answer incoming telephone calls; provide assistance and information related to department programs, activities, procedures, forms, fees, or other issues; distribute activity schedules, registration forms, or other documents; respond to routine questions/complaints, research problems, and initiate problem resolution.
- Monitor individuals or organizations using recreation facilities or participating in recreational programs; assist instructors with class setup and participant roster sheets; explain rules, regulations, and policies to program participants; respond to situations involving excessive noise, inappropriate language/actions, disruptive behavior, or other problems.
- Assist with daily facility operations; set up tables, chairs, or other equipment for classes/activities; perform sweeping, mopping, and general housekeeping tasks to maintain cleanliness of facilities or athletic fields.
- Respond to emergency situations relating to recreation center operations or athletic fields and activities.
- Complete various forms, reports, correspondence, receipts, activity/event schedules, meeting room schedules, rosters, work orders, safety checklists, or other documents.
- Operate a personal computer, general office equipment, athletic equipment, or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions; utilize word processing, spreadsheet, database, e‑mail, Internet, or other programs.
- Communicate with supervisor, other departments, employees, class instructors, coaches, sporting officials, athletic organizations, program registrants/participants, parents, vendors, the public, community organizations, outside organizations, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
- Provide information to the community regarding recreation/athletic programs, activities, facilities, schedules, fees, and related issues.
- Maintain a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable department and county policies, procedures, regulations, and guidelines.
- Inspect facilities to ensure timely preparation for scheduled activities; identify malfunctioning equipment, damage/vandalism, potential safety hazards, or other problems; initiate appropriate corrective action or report problems to supervisory staff.
- Prepare/set-up athletic fields, recreational facilities, and related facilities for scheduled events (unlocking facilities, turning on/off lights and scoreboards, securing all facilities at conclusion of events).
- Groom baseball/softball fields and recreational facilities as needed or directed.
- Repair or replace pitching rubbers, pitching mounds, and bases.
- Maintain infield areas by removing rocks, shifting/adding dirt or filling low areas; remove excess water, apply infield conditioner, rake infields as needed or directed.
- Dispose of litter from facilities and grounds; notify maintenance staff for litter removal as warranted.
- Monitor and inspect park facilities to identify problems, needed repairs, or other situations requiring attention (vandalism, inoperative lighting, broken sprinkler heads); report problem situations to supervisor.
- Operate a variety of hand tools associated with projects and work activities, which may include chalk machine, paint machine, rake, base anchor tool, metal detector, hammer, broom, mop, and/or various janitorial tools.
- Position is designated as a safety sensitive position which is subject to random drug and alcohol testing and any other drug testing methods as stated in policies adopted by Forsyth County concerning drug and alcohol.
- Perform general/clerical tasks, including making copies, sending/receiving faxes, filing documentation, processing incoming/outgoing mail, or distributing documentation.
- Provide assistance to other employees or departments as needed.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must be able to perform all essential position functions.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with the public and co‑workers.
- Must be neatly groomed and be willing to wear and maintain county‑issued clothing.
- Must be present and punctual on all scheduled days.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
Performs Other Related Duties As Required.
