Job description

Role Overview

The Technical Artist will design and build real-time visual effects, prototypes, and creative tools using modern rendering technologies. You will collaborate with designers, producers, creative directors, and engineers to create, implement, and refine Metal-based visual effects for use across applications and frameworks.

The role blends creative experimentation with deep low‑level optimization, converting visual concepts and look‑development references into performant, reusable rendering solutions. A strong visual sensibility is required to interpret creative direction and craft the look and feel of real‑time effects.
Must reside in NY or California for consideration*

Hours: 40 per week (PST)

Duration: 12+ months

Rate: $80-125/hr

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement real‑time visual effects and rendering solutions using Metal and related technologies.
  • Prototype and build creative tools and pipelines for use by cross‑functional teams.
  • Optimize rendering performance, troubleshoot graphics issues, and refine visual quality.
  • Collaborate closely with non‑engineering partners to translate creative ideas into technical implementations.
Key Qualifications
  • 7–10 years of experience with real‑time graphics and rendering pipelines.
  • Strong knowledge of Metal Shading Language (MSL) or equivalent shader languages (OpenGL/GLSL/HLSL/Vulkan).
  • Understanding of ray tracing, ray marching, volumetric rendering, and real‑time lighting models.
  • Proficiency in Objective‑C or C++;
    Swift is a plus.
  • Experience working within App Kit or UIKit environments.
  • Skilled in concurrent programming, debugging, and performance optimization.
  • Comfortable building shaders, pipelines, and tools for use by non‑engineering collaborators.
  • Proficient with Git and collaborative development workflows.
  • Strong communication skills; able to bridge creative and technical perspectives.
  • Familiarity with content‑creation tools such as Touch Designer, Houdini, or Reality Composer Pro.
  • Demonstrated success working in large‑scale or cross‑disciplinary content pipelines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with Core Animation, Core Graphics, USD, or Scene Kit.
  • Experience building apps end‑to‑end on relevant platforms.
