A globally leading consumer device company headquartered in Cupertino, CA is looking for a Battery Thermal Engineer to join their team.
Job Responsibilities:- As a member of the Battery Modeling team, you will be responsible for Thermal modeling for all products.
- Develop state of art Thermal as well as multi-physics finite volume (FE) models of cell, pack, and BMS sub-systems.
- Generate models/capability to convert power map into thermal outputs.
- Perform advanced Thermal/CFD simulations to evaluate and enhance understanding of the various boundary conditions at the cell, pack, BMS sub-systems around battery packs well as in system.
- Use best in class tools and solvers to generate the necessary simulation models and results.
- Develop optimized workflows and/or reusable templates for regularly required thermal simulations.
- Develop and implement thermal modeling best practices.
- Work with CAE vendors to drive the functionality improvements to better serve the CAE needs of the group.
- Explore new analysis types and solutions, including topological optimization.
- Extract Reduced Order Models (ROM) from CFD simulations to speed up the exploratory studies.
Qualifications:
- MS/PhD + 3 yrs industry experience
- Mechanical engineering background with strong foundation in CFD and thermal modeling
- Must-have expert level skillset related to Ansys electronic desktop (AEDT) and Icepak in AEDT
- Python or other scripting languages
- Familiarity in Cadence Allegro and electronics layout design
- Familiarity with li-ion cells and battery packs
