Job Overview
Amazon Web Services (AWS) Hardware Engineering Services (HWEngS) owns the new product development and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that keep the cloud running. This role works with a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers to deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers.
Responsibilities- Integrate hardware and software components to build servers in collaboration with service teams and support Data Center Operations.
- Design, develop, validate, and deploy servers at scale from concept to production, including functional block diagrams, schematics, specifications, analysis, test plans, and monitoring plans.
- Lead cross-organizational teams to improve total cost of ownership, quality, reliability, performance, and serviceability.
- Work closely with internal teams, suppliers, and external partners to ensure designs are of the highest quality.
- Own end-to-end product lifecycle from concept, design, launch, and operation.
- Resolve complex engineering challenges across many disciplines: server/board design, thermal‑mechanical design, firmware/software integration, manufacturing, and data center operations.
- Bachelor's degree in electrical or computer engineering, or 5+ years of relevant technical experience.
- 5+ years of server‑level design experience for compute, storage, or accelerator segments.
- 5+ years of leading ODMs and suppliers in product development and manufacturing.
- Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
- Experience in board and server root‑cause analysis and resolution.
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- 8+ years of complex product development experience, such as servers, network switches, or highly integrated devices.
- Expertise in early product definition, feature trade‑off analysis, and design disciplines including thermal, mechanical, power, firmware/software, reliability, and sustaining.
- Proficient in scripting, debugging, and Linux operations commands.
- Experience deploying and operating hardware and applications across large data centers.
- Experience leading hardware and software development engineering teams.
- Meets or exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles and functional/technical depth requirements for this role.
Base salary range: $183,000 – $247,600 annually (Cupertino); $159,200 – $215,300 annually (Seattle). Compensation includes sign‑on payments, restricted stock units (RSUs), and a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
