Senior Cloud Hardware Development Engineer, AWS Hardware Engineering Services, Specialized Platforms and Servers

Amazon Web Services (AWS) Hardware Engineering Services (HWEngS) owns the new product development and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We design and build compute, storage, accelerator, and enterprise servers for AWS customers, ensuring high performance, frugality, and operational excellence. The Senior Cloud Hardware Development Engineer (CHDE) will architect, design, develop, and build next‑generation servers and AWS‑specific hardware components, collaborating across software, network, supply chain, and operations teams.

You will be responsible for integration of hardware/software components to build our servers, work with service teams to define products, and support Data Center Operations at all server locations. Your day‑to‑day work will involve designing, developing, validating, and deploying servers at scale, while solving interdisciplinary challenges across server/board design, thermal‑mechanical design, firmware/software, integration with the software service control plane, manufacturing, and data center operations.

• Bring new technology to our servers and scale operation of existing and rapidly growing fleet.
• Collaborate with internal development teams and external suppliers to deliver high‑performance, high‑quality servers.
• Establish strategic vision and drive execution in defining and delivering new products and services.
• Lead integration and delivery of servers, support development of automated monitoring and failure analysis services to operate, debug, and scale our servers.
• Work closely with AWS software teams to tailor and operate server solutions for the AWS environment and support launch and operation of servers in production.

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent, or 5+ years of relevant technical experience.
• 5+ years of experience in server‑level design for compute, storage, accelerator segment or other complex product design.
• 5+ years’ experience leading ODMs and other suppliers in product development and manufacturing processes.
• Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
• Experience in board and server root cause analysis and resolution.

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• 8+ years of experience in complex product development such as servers, network switches, or other highly integrated devices with hardware, software, and service aspects.
• Expertise in early product definition and feature trade‑off analysis.
• Expertise in product development disciplines such as thermal, mechanical, power, firmware/software, reliability, and sustaining.
• Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production.
• Proficient scripting, debugging abilities, and Linux operations commands.
• Experience deploying and operating hardware and applications across large data centers.
• Experience leading hardware and software development engineering teams.
• Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role.
• Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role.
