Overview
Glass & Ceramics Engineer | Materials Product Design – Cupertino, California, United States. The role focuses on developing and integrating glass and ceramic materials and processes to meet mechanical, aesthetic, and product requirements across Apple product lines. You will work with multi-functional teams and external vendors to determine suitable materials and processing approaches for future Apple devices.
Responsibilities- Architect, test, and validate new material solutions for a wide range of Apple products.
- Develop new processes to enable novel designs and advance glass & ceramics capabilities.
- Collaborate with multi-functional partners and external vendors to optimize materials and processes.
- Deep dive into material fundamentals and solve challenging problems; communicate progress and milestones to stakeholders.
- Travel domestically or internationally as needed (less than 10%).
- BS/MS/PhD in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry or Physics
- Strong fundamentals in structure–properties–performance relationships and optimization for mechanical durability
- Excellent background in mechanics and failure mechanisms of various materials
- Knowledge of materials characterization methods (e.g., SEM, EDS, XRD, Raman, mechanical tests)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to apply statistical tools
- Demonstrated ability to independently drive multiple projects, set priorities, and deliver results
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with technical updates on milestones
- Technical knowledge of glass, glass-ceramics, structural ceramics or composite systems
- Experience in glass or ceramic processing, including finishing and shaping methods
- Working knowledge of failure analysis in brittle materials and interpretation of results
- Applied knowledge of brittle material processing
Base pay is determined within a range and varies by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. The base pay range for this role is between $175,800 and $264,200. Apple employees may participate in discretionary stock programs and stock purchase plans.
