This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in an R&D lab environment, solving tricky mechanical problems, building fixtures and test setups, and partnering across teams to drive issues to resolution.

In this role, you will help test prototypes, systems, and related components under electrical and mechanical stress conditions. You will also support root cause investigations, troubleshoot failures, and help improve the processes and tools used to execute highly accurate testing.

Responsibilities
  • Utilize lab equipment to build and test prototypes, systems, and related components under electrical and mechanical stresses.
  • Design and develop customized equipment, fixtures, and/or protocols as needed to enable accurate and repeatable testing activities.
  • Troubleshoot failed test samples and product samples, and provide processes or solutions to address failures.
  • Perform system tear downs as part of failure analysis and root cause investigations.
  • Coordinate participation from internal and external groups during tear downs, troubleshooting, and failure analysis activities.
  • Develop, follow, and support lab safety protocols.
  • Ensure the lab remains compliant with applicable regulations, good housekeeping practices, and safety expectations.
  • Conduct regular safety checks and audits of testing equipment.
  • Provide timely updates across multiple project activities, priorities, and schedules.
Requirements
  • Mechanical and/or manufacturing engineering background with emphasis on process and equipment design and development.
  • Ability to manage development activities in an R&D lab setting to meet team objectives and schedules.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with hands‑on experience fabricating mechanical or electromechanical fixtures and jigs.
  • Hands‑on experience with product disassembly, metrology, and measuring activities.
  • Self‑motivated, curious, quick learner, and comfortable reaching out across stakeholder teams to drive resolution.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with data analysis and process development focused on meeting a specific manufacturing goal.
  • CAD experience; NX experience is a plus.
  • Hands‑on experience with thermal measurement, strain gauge measurement, and Instron measurement.
  • Failure analysis experience such as cross sections, microscopy, SEM, FTIR, X‑Ray, or related methods.
  • Experience with fabrication machining such as mill, lathe, band saw, and 3D printing.
  • Ability to plan DOEs, monitor data to spot trends, and react proactively.
