EMC Design Engineer
Billions of people pick up an Apple product every day. What they don't see is the brilliant engineering that makes it all just work — that's where you come in. Electromagnetic compatibility isn't just a compliance checkbox at Apple — it's an engineering art form. Here, you'll tackle some of the most complex and consequential EMC challenges in the industry, working on products that touch virtually every corner of the globe.
We're looking for someone who naturally approaches problems with creativity and curiosity — an engineer who doesn't just solve the challenge in front of them, but reimagines how it could be solved better. We deeply value a genuine desire to acquire new skills and grow professionally, and we work best with excellent communicators who can fluently collaborate across cross-functional teams.
If you're resourceful, passionate, and ready to develop solutions that don't yet exist — there's no telling what you could accomplish here.
- Review mechanical designs of enclosures, connectors, and cables for EMC compliance
- Review printed circuit board (PCB) schematics and layouts for emissions and immunity control
- Partner with our vendors on defining component specifications and validation procedures to meet EMC requirements at the system level.
- Prepare comprehensive test plans, supervise the execution of test plans and compilation of test reports
- Define validation requirements and training of test engineers on the collection of data at factories and Apple labs
- Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical causes of EMC failures and identify solutions that are agreeable to cross-functional partners
- Review and analyze data from multiple designs, present findings to peers, partners and management and recommend design changes
- BSEE or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of experience and/or advanced education in EMC
- Prior experience and/or education in EMC, ESD, RF and signal integrity areas
- Ability to build effective working relationships with other engineers and cross-functional partners
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Willing and able to support occasional international travel to other Apple sites, vendors, and contract manufacturers
- MSEE / PhD with a specialization in electromagnetic fields and/or applications
- Experience with electromagnetic modeling and simulation tools such as CST, HFSS, and ADS
- Experience in one or more of the following fields: EMC, ESD, RF/Antenna, Signal Integrity and Power Integrity
- Detailed understanding of design and testing of ITE products for EMC compliance and deep knowledge in EMC/ ESD debug techniques
- Experience with Matlab and scripting for test automation and data analysis
- Proficient in schematic and layout review of PCBs for emissions and immunity control
- Able to perform CAD review of enclosures, connectors, and cables for EMC compliance
- In-depth knowledge of worldwide EMC regulations, test methods, and standards, including EN55032, EN55035, IEC
61000 series, and ETSI 301 489 series - Experience with EMC lab equipment such as spectrum and vector network analyzers, oscilloscopes, and transmission line pulsers (TLP)
