Senior Hardware Development Engineer, AWS Mainstream Compute

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. The role focuses on designing and developing compute and storage server products at scale, working closely with customers, interdisciplinary teams, and manufacturing partners to deliver reliable, high‑performance, and cost‑effective solutions.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Lead technical solutions for complex compute, storage, and accelerator server and rack system architectural challenges.
  • Own end‑to‑end system reliability, proactively identifying and resolving deficiencies before customer impact.
  • Design and implement solutions to address system‑level issues at large scale.
  • Decompose complex server system problems (testability, reliability, diagnostics) into deliverable tasks and features.
  • Apply expertise across hardware, software, system design, x86 architecture, processes, and operations.
  • Collaborate with hardware, software, manufacturing, supply chain and product management teams.
  • Develop and implement diagnostic tools and monitoring solutions for production systems.
  • Debug complex system failures in time‑sensitive settings.
Basic Qualifications
  • Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
  • Experience in server technologies such as thermal, mechanical, power, and signal integrity.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5+ years experience with design and manufacturing processes.
  • 5+ years experience leading ODMs and other suppliers in product development and manufacturing processes.
  • In‑depth expertise in one or more server technologies such as thermal/mechanical design, high‑speed bus design, signal integrity, failure analysis, server components (CPU, NIC, FPGA, GPU, SSDs, drives), BIOS, BMC, and networking.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent.
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production.
  • 10+ years hardware development with a focus on system/server development in compute and/or storage server architecture for large‑scale applications.
  • Expertise in early product definition and feature trade‑off analysis.
  • Experience with server validation and issue root‑causing.
  • Experience with deploying and operating hardware and applications across large data centers.
  • Proficient scripting, debugging, and Linux operations command experience.
  • Experience with leading hardware and software development engineering teams.
