Systems Software Engineer — Marvis Minis & Edge AI

Overview

Systems Software Engineer – Marvis Minis & Edge AI (Onsite, primarily at HPE office in Cupertino, CA). This role drives autonomous, AI‑driven networking by developing the Marvis Minis digital twin framework that runs on access points, validates network health, and feeds data into our self‑driving network engine.

• Develop and test Minis features across embedded firmware, switches, gateways, and cloud components such as data pipelines, SLE classifiers, and REST APIs.
• Write and maintain validation tests (DNS, DHCP, ping, MTR) that run on network hardware and report results to the cloud via Kafka.
• Debug cross‑layer issues spanning AP firmware, cloud services, and data pipelines.
• Contribute to extending Minis to switches and WAN edge devices in collaboration with peer dev teams.
• Improve cloud services:
  Storm topologies, Airflow DAGs, Redis caching, Elasticsearch queries, Kafka consumers handling millions of test results.
• Participate in production operations: monitor feature rollouts and respond to customer‑reported issues.
• Collaborate with senior engineers, data scientists, QA, and firmware teams.

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• 2+ years hands‑on experience in at least two of the following languages:
  Go, C, Python.
• 2+ years working on Linux‑based systems, comfortable with shell scripts, debugging tools (gdb, strace, tcpdump), and networking configuration.
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, HTTP.
• 1+ year experience with cloud or distributed systems (e.g., Kafka, MQTT, Storm, Flink, REST APIs, Docker).
• 1+ year with version control & CI/CD (Git workflow, pull requests, code reviews, CI pipelines).
• BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.

• Embedded Linux development (cross‑compilation, on‑device debugging).
• Familiarity with data pipeline tools:
  Apache Storm, Airflow, Redis, Elasticsearch.
• Experience with AI/ML concepts (model inference, data preprocessing, signal processing).
• Knowledge of wireless networking, AP hardware, IoT protocols.
• Production monitoring, alerting, incident response.
• Python data tools:
  Pandas, Num Py, JSON processing.

Annual salary range: $120,500 – $243,000 (California). Variable incentives may also be offered.
