Engineering Manager, Quality Engineering — Map Kit

Embark on a new route in your career! Offering a host of innovative features and rich data, Apple Maps powers experiences across Apple's product line. Join the Map Kit Quality Engineering team to help deliver the revolutionary Apple Maps experience — reliably and at scale — to apps and websites reaching millions of users every day. This role oversees the scaling of automation testing across Map Kit SDK on iOS, MacOS, WatchOS, Android and JS platforms, including a growing focus on Android automation, SDK/API validation, and CI reliability.

If you enjoy building quality into developer-facing products and leading testing strategy across a fast-moving, cross-functional organization, this role is for you. The Map Kit QE team is responsible for the quality of our public APIs and SDKs — including Map Kit SDK for Apple native platforms, Android, and Map Kit JS — as well as the automation frameworks and tools powering our developer ecosystem.

You will lead a team of quality engineers who partner closely with development, product, and design throughout the full feature lifecycle: from early design review and test planning, through automation framework development, execution, triage, and release sign-off — all the way to features shipping at Apple's Developer Conference. The ideal candidate combines technical depth in test engineering, SDK/API automation, and people management, with a passion for shipping high-quality developer experiences.

In addition to leading a QE team, you should be comfortable driving test strategy for complex, multi-platform SDKs, championing automation and continuous testing best practices, and coaching engineers to grow in their careers.

  • Manage a team of Quality Engineers covering Map Kit SDK on Native, Android and Map Kit JS across multiple timezones
  • Define and drive overall test strategy — coverage, automation frameworks, CI/CD, and release quality gates — for public SDKs and APIs used by clients such as Find My, Weather, Duck Duck Go , and third-party developers
  • Guide the design and development of automation frameworks and tools to validate Map Kit SDK, APIs, and sample/test applications across platforms (iOS, Android, and Web)
  • Partner with Engineering and Product Management to review feature and API designs early, identify risk areas, and ensure testability is built in from the start
  • Drive best practices in automation, continuous testing, and testability across the development lifecycle
  • Lead bug triage, root-cause analysis, and go/no-go release decisions across Map Kit deliverables
  • Oversee test result aggregation, analysis, and reporting to surface trends, gaps, and quality risks
  • Represent QE in cross-functional discussions, including at key milestones
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop quality engineers, helping them grow their technical and leadership skills
  • 6+ years of quality/test engineering experience, at least two of which in a lead or management role
  • Proven track record of driving test strategy and delivering comprehensive test coverage for mission-critical SDKs, APIs, and applications
  • Hands-on experience with SDK/API testing and automation frameworks (e.g., XCTest, Espresso, UI Automator, Appium, or JavaScript/web test frameworks)
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, build systems (e.g., Gradle), Git, and RESTful API/backend integration testing
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills, with the ability to independently diagnose and triage complex issues
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to guide teams through ambiguous and complex technical challenges
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to explain complex problems clearly and succinctly
  • Passion to collaborate and iterate on ideas in a cross-functional team
  • Experience testing or designing SDKs/APIs used by external teams or third-party developers, including Android and/or iOS SDKs
  • Practical experience with mobile and web technologies (Swift, Objective-C, Kotlin/Java, HTML/CSS/JavaScript/Type Script)
  • Familiarity with SwiftUI, UIKit, React, and/or Node.js
  • Experience managing host/lab environments for automated testing and end-to-end automation…
