Safety and Location Software Engineer

As a Software Engineer on the Safety and Location team, you will be working with the teams responsible for designing and productizing innovative safety features like Emergency SOS Live Video, Crash Detection, Fall Detection, and SOS via Satellite to name a few. By collaborating with other product development groups across Apple, you'll push the industry boundaries of what wireless systems can do and improve the product experience for our customers across the world.

This position requires someone comfortable with all aspects of software development, who thrives in a multifaceted multifunctional organization, is not afraid to debate ideas openly, and is flexible enough to take on requirements that evolve dynamically due to changing customer needs and regulations.

The environment is fast-paced, requiring the ability to work autonomously and to manage the aggressive delivery schedules. Suitable candidates should have a strong background in Computer Engineering, excellent problem solving skills, and passion for improving existing processes and tools. The right mix of technical, organizational, and communication skills is the key to success. Attention to detail and a proven ability to manage priorities are essential.

• Help architect and implement new frameworks and daemons to power new functionality for upcoming hardware products
• Develop software that operates in safety-critical environments, and build robust test and verification pipelines to ensure reliability and resiliency
• Bring innovative ideas and fresh perspectives to safety and location features that push the boundaries of what is possible on a personal device
• Understand product requirements, engage with team members to define solutions, and estimate the scope of work required
• Work cross-functionally with teams across Engineering to add support for new software features
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex software integration issues

• Strong Software Engineering skills including design, programming (C, C++, Python, Git) and debugging
• Experience crafting APIs and broad experience in system design
• Well versed in software design paradigms and software development best practices, including development with Gen AI assisted and agentic workflows
• Excellent analytical, programming, and debugging skills

• Thrives in a collaborative environment and can clearly communicate while driving multiple projects across teams
• Genuine passion for safety-oriented technology and a drive to continuously innovate in ways that make a real difference in people's lives
• Familiarity with basics of RF or location estimation technologies
• Experience designing and debugging frameworks and multi-threaded / multi-process systems
• Deeply passionate about user privacy and understand the balance between privacy and safety
• A creative mindset with a track record of bringing innovative ideas to life in safety-critical or user-facing products
• Experience with Objective-C or Swift programming

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $150,400 and $277,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs.
