Step into a rewarding role supporting students as a contract American Sign Language Interpreter for the academic year. In this position, you’ll be a vital communication bridge for a kindergarten-aged student in a self-contained classroom setting, ensuring access and engagement in every aspect of their school day. You'll have the unique opportunity to work 1:1 in a single school building, making a meaningful difference from August 2026 through May 2027.
Qualificationsand Experience
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and experience in educational interpreting
- Previous experience interpreting for children, ideally in a school environment
- Knowledge of supporting students with profound hearing loss
- Ability to adapt communication style to suit young learners and promote engagement
- Comfort working independently in a 1:1 role
- Approachable, professional demeanor with strong collaboration skills
- Relevant interpreter certification preferred but not required
- Provide ASL interpretation for a profoundly deaf kindergarten student in a self-contained classroom
- Promote understanding and inclusion throughout daily lessons, classroom activities, and school events
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to facilitate effective communication
Maintain clarity in interpreting both academic and social interactions - Foster a supportive and accessible learning environment
You’ll enjoy the consistency of working within one school building, focusing all your expertise on a single student, and building a strong rapport across the academic year. The contract offers a steady 35-hour work week.
