Position OverviewThe concrete mixer truck driver safely operates a vehicle designed to manufacture, deliver and unload ready‑mixed concrete to meet customer satisfaction. The driver receives directions and work assignments from the dispatcher/plant manager, delivers to job sites with difficult and congested unloading points, and maintains truck and plant cleanliness.
A minimum of a Class B CDL is required.
Key Responsibilities- Works safely and efficiently.
- Maintains a clean and orderly work area and vehicle.
- Complies with all OSHA and USDOT/FMCSA safe‑operating practices.
- Uses PPE as directed.
- Operates ready‑mix concrete truck to deliver to construction sites safely, efficiently, and in accordance with dispatch instructions.
- Maintains communication with the dispatcher or plant manager regarding deliveries.
- Climbs an 8‑foot ladder to load materials safely and obtain necessary signatures.
- Handles 50‑pound mixer chutes safely and adds admixtures to the drum when required.
- Maintains truck cleanliness, including rinsing the drum before and after deliveries.
- Collects money from customers and records transactions on receipt.
- Responds to customer questions about product and basic concrete instructions.
- Performs pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections of the vehicle.
- Utilizes tablet and computer skills; follows GPS or map books.
- Performs other functions as necessary, including truck or plant maintenance, sweeping, shoveling, or yard work, while maintaining a safe work environment.
- Displays a professional and courteous attitude toward co‑workers, supervisors, and the public.
- Willing to work nights and weekends as required.
- Works safely and efficiently without supervision.
- Adheres to Shelly Company policies and procedures.
- Is willing to work in a team environment and assist co‑workers or supervisors.
- Can work independently when needed.
- Maintains timely and regular attendance.
Protective equipment may include gloves, hard hat, reflective vest, safety shoes, and seatbelt, as required by OSHA and/or MSHA.
QualificationsMust possess a valid minimum Class B CDL.
Education And ExperienceHigh school diploma preferred or equivalent; or a minimum of one year of related experience or training.
Language SkillsAbility to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence; ability to present information to customers, clients, and employees.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to add and subtract two‑digit numbers and to multiply and divide with tens and hundreds; perform operations using units of American money and weight, volume, and distance.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense to carry out simple one‑ or two‑step instructions and to handle standardized situations.
Stress ManagementAbility to handle stressful situations while meeting customer service demands and addressing customer complaints during deliveries.
Driver License & Medical CardThe employee must acquire and maintain a valid DOT medical card and a state‑issued commercial driver license.
Physical RequirementsThe job requires sitting, handling tools and controls, talking or hearing, standing, walking, reaching, climbing, bending, kneeling, squatting, and lifting up to 50 pounds frequently. Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
Work EnvironmentThe work environment involves exposure to wet or humid conditions, extreme heat or cold, outdoor weather, fumes or airborne particles, vibration, and moderate noise. Working conditions include hot, cold, wet weather, noise, high heat, moving equipment, and cooperation with others.
